Warrior Journey Scholarship
Overview
The Veterans Breakthrough Jiu Jitsu Scholarship Program is committed to empowering veterans through the transformative practice of Jiu Jitsu. Designed specifically for veterans who are new to Jiu Jitsu or currently at a white belt level, the program aims to support their transition to civilian life by harnessing the physical and mental benefits of this martial art.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Veteran status with honorable discharge from military service (DD214 required)

Separated/retired from active duty status
-
A desire to excel and to live a life with purpose.
Special Consideration:
Veterans that served in a combat zone and/or have a disability rating (mental or physical) will be given priority consideration.
Program Details
Basic Commitment Criteria:

Train a minimum of two times per week at a Veterans Breakthrough Approved Training Academy

Work with a Veteran Mentor to set and work towards personal goals (Physical, mental or other areas of improvement identified at the start of the scholarship.)

Attend Monthly Goal Setting session virtual or in person.

Commitment to Program Guidelines: Adhere to the rules, regulations, and guidelines established by the Veterans Jiu Jitsu Scholarship Program Code of Conduct throughout the scholarship period.
If approved, scholarship recipients will receive:

An initial 3 month scholarship for Jiu Jitsu training at a Veterans Breakthrough Approved Training Academy
Note: Veteran will attend Local Approved Affiliate Academy for a minimum of 3 session trial period. Prior to receiving scholarship. -
A Gi.

Potential for private coaching and special training equipment (subject to board approval)
Extension Criteria:
Extension to 6 Month Scholarship:
Exceptional participants who demonstrate commitment and progress may qualify for an extension to 6 months of scholarship support by meeting the following Criteria:

All basic Criteria must be met (see above)

Progress Evaluation completed by Instructors/coaches: Demonstrate measurable progress in Jiu Jitsu skills and techniques as assessed by instructors/coaches.

Exhibit a positive attitude, respect for instructors and fellow practitioners, and adherence to the principles of sportsmanship and discipline.

Reflection and Feedback: Provide periodic reflections on the benefits and challenges experienced during the scholarship period, as well as feedback on the program to help improve future iterations.

Community Involvement: Actively engage in the Jiu Jitsu community by participating in events, seminars, or volunteering opportunities.
Extension to Full-Year Scholarship:
Participants who excel in their training, show dedication to their personal growth, and actively contribute to their Jiu Jitsu community may be awarded a full-year scholarship. Criteria for 6-Month Scholarship Extension

Selection Process
Scholarships are primarily reserved for veterans who are new to Jiu Jitsu or currently at a white belt level. The selection process involves a review of submitted application by our selection committed. Once selected you will be notified.
